The staff of Stepping Stones would like to welcome you and your child to our Pre-school Group. It was established during September 1991, and is situated within the pleasant grounds of Newlyn School. It is registered with Ofsted as a nursery providing day care for children from 2.5 to 4.5 years of age between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3.15 p.m., during term time; and is delighted to have received accreditation for Cornwall Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership's quality assurance award "For one child, and all children"

Stepping Stones Team

My name is Sue Moon and I am privileged to be the Manager of Stepping Stones. I have two children of my own, and joined Stepping Stones in 1991, when my over possessive 3 year old son decided that he didn’t want to leave his mum at playschool, so together (and with a little bit of help from Mrs. O’Connor) we started the group Stepping Stones, at the infant school where his older sister was quite happily being a grown up school girl.

What I enjoy most of all at Stepping Stones is………….Although most of my work is now of the paper variety, I still love being part of the Stepping Stones family, though more like a granny now, than a mum! I enjoy seeing the children develop in all areas, the love that they give and the happiness we share. I am especially proud when previous members of Stepping Stones say hello, even the great big teenagers at secondary school- makes all the grey hairs worthwhile!

My name is Jana Cowan- Dickie. I joined Stepping Stones 7 or more years ago because I had completed a lot of training here and jumped at the chance when offered a job, and have enjoyed every day since!

What I enjoy most of all at Stepping Stones is………..feeling like I belong; and that I could progress onto bigger things here given the chance. Also seeing children advance to a level when they leave which seems unimaginable when they first join us; and just generally teaching little people what they need to give them the best start in life. Plus nothing makes me happier than seeing children happy be it mine or someone else’s.

My name is Tracey Hoole-Jackson, I have three children who have all attended Stepping Stones. I joined the Group many years ago, firstly voluntary, covering for holidays, training for my N.V.Q, and then into employment in September 2001. I love working with children, especially pre-school children.

What I enjoy most of all at Stepping Stones is……………..being in a position to look after and care for every child, providing all the wonderful opportunities we offer as a team. I enjoy it all and look forward to coming to Stepping Stones each day!

My name is Ali Dodd. I joined Stepping Stones in September 2002, as I needed a pre-school with a great reputation so that I could complete my levels 2 and 3 in Childcare and Education training.

What I enjoy most of all at Stepping Stones is…………..Every day is different, all the children are different in their own ways and they surprise us all the time with the things they say and do. It’s great to watch them grow from shy 2.5 year olds to confident 4 year olds, ready for school.

The members of staff are lovely and we all get on really well as a team- I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else!

My name is Stacy Hichens. I joined Stepping Stones in 2003 as a student and completed my Level 2 in childcare. When a job became available, I was happy to apply and felt over the moon to accept it! I then worked towards my Level 3, which took me 2 years to complete, and I have remained here ever since!

What I enjoy most of all at Stepping Stones is………………seeing the children’s happy little faces every morning; they are so pleased to be here and that makes me happy, it feels so rewarding. I enjoy doing all the activities we have on offer especially being creative and cookery sessions, its great fun!

I also work at “Kidzone” which is our breakfast and after school club which is open from to and at Newlyn   School . I really enjoy this part of my work as well; we all have great fun especially in the school holidays, when we visit the beach, the woods and the parks! I feel very proud to be part of the Stepping Stones and Kidzone team; everyone is so lovely to work with, I enjoy every minute of my career!

My name is Corrina Stratton Darling. I joined Stepping Stones to gain pre-school work experience to complete my level 3 qualification whilst my youngest son was here. When a position became vacant, I jumped at the opportunity to work with such a great team.

What I enjoy most of all at Stepping Stones is encouraging the young people to learn and play; sharing their experiences and watching them grow; and being part of an excellent, very knowledgeable team…I seem to learn something new every day!

My name is Mary; I have three children, the youngest of which has just settled into full time school. I love being with children and decided to do my N V Q level 2 in Child Development so that I could work with young children.

Hello, my name is Rachel and I started at Stepping Stones in March 2007 volunteering to gain some experience for my foundation degree in Early Childhood Education. I really enjoy the job because it helps me to link the theory for my course into practice and I really like working with children at this age because all children are unique and interesting.

My name is Rebekah and I started work at Stepping Stones and the Kidzone club last year as I wanted more experience to further my career in Childcare and Education: I have now almost completed my honours degree. My previous experience involved working at a Montessori Nursery, at some local primary schools and with young mothers at the W.I.L.D young parent’s project as a crčche leader. This term I have been happy to work in the Reception class at Newlyn school and I very much enjoy working at Kidzone with the different aged children; it is like working with a giant family; the older children care for the younger ones, its lovely! We go exploring in the holidays and have creative days; it is so much fun!
