11 Apr 2008 - Summer Term Newsletter No. 1 – 11 April 2008

Welcome back and I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break.

If you have been into school this week you may have noticed a few changes in some of our junior classrooms. Many of the staff and I were very busy at the start of the Easter holidays. They gave up their own time to completely empty the Year 4 classroom so a new carpet and flooring could be fitted, as well as having a good clear out in Year 5, the Elliotts, library and other areas. We are still waiting for some of the new storage furniture to arrive, so it is ‘work in progress’ but we are very pleased with the progress we have made so far to ensure the children have a good environment in which to learn. It really was a case of ‘many hands make light work’ and so I’d like to say thank you to all the staff for their help and to Mr Beamish and Mrs Tom’s husband Dave for putting all Year 4s new tables together

The teaching staff will be sending class letters out to you next week plus an overview of the topics your children will be learning about this term. I know many exciting things have been planned, plus we have linked up with Newlyn Art gallery to do a joint project with them later in the term.

From Monday (14 April) we have decided to have the Junior children into school in the morning from in the same way that the Infant children have been doing, very successfully, since September. This will give them the chance to sort out their coats, bags, lunch boxes (without the crush in the cloakrooms), organise themselves for their morning task and be ready for the class teacher to start the register promptly. Their teacher or a member of staff will be in the classroom from to receive them instead of a teacher being on duty in the playground. The bell will still ring at and it is important that you ensure your child is at school by that time.

We still have a small number of children being dropped off at school before on a morning, some as early as . We are not responsible for them before 8.45am so if you need them to come into school earlier please can you book them into breakfast club so they can be supervised.

Thank you for your support and cooperation regarding the closing of the school car

park gates. I also need to remind people that it is County  Policy not to have dogs on school grounds.

The new clubs will start the week beginning 21st April and I am looking forward to working on the school garden with some of the children!
